Taake – 20th anniversary gig at Det Akademiske Kvarter – REVIEW
Both – review and photos are property of Erica McConnell – used here under her permission. This is her first post here. Thank you very much for this material \m/

“Taake came back to their hometown to play their 20th anniversary show and did not disappoint.
Opening for them was fairy, a dark melodic female group with soaring vocals but also a good amount of bite. They had an atmospheric vibe, created by their beautiful soprano singer and keyboard player. While very different from Taake, the crowd loved them and Hoest is said to be a big fan.
Taake came on stage with the energy of a much younger band, it’s hard to believe they had been around 20 years. Hoest’s stage presence filled the entire venue, there was not a second when he didn’t look to be complete into the performance. The lights and smoke added even more to the atmosphere, perfectly in time with the music and strobes that kept the energy flowing. I caught a bit of their soundcheck and they were perfectionists about it, moving around the room to listen to what they sounded like from all areas, even making sure the banjo was perfect for their encore, Myr. It paid off though, the music was perfectly balanced no matter where you were.
They played through their material chronologically with the albums covers as backdrops. At one point Hoest draped himself in a Norwegian flag bringing deafening cheers from the crowd. Skål to 20 more years of Taake!”
